Pacific Rim: Uprising Review - 3 Ups & 7 Downs

3. Scott Eastwood's Wooden Performance

Scott Eastwood joins the sequel as Nate Lambert, a veteran Jaeger pilot who is training new recruits and has a storied history with Jake.

Eastwood sure did inherit his father's rugged good looks - something that Jake mentions several times throughout the film, by the way - but he also gets an amount of screen time that's wildly disproportionate to his level of charisma.

Nate is basically just a wooden, boring parody of the drill sergeant stereotype without much added personality to make him feel like a real human being.

He's easy on the eyes, which is basically his prime reason for being in the film, but he's not exactly a household name beyond that earned by his dad, so would it have killed the filmmakers to hire one of the thousands of slightly less handsome yet much more talented actors out there?

Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes). General video game, TV and film nut. Occasional sports fan. Full time loon.
