Paramount Remaking The Inbetweeners Film

Inbetweeners co-creator Iain Morris bringing the biggest British comedy of all time to the States!

The Inbetweeners co-creator Iain Morris has been hired by Paramount Pictures to write and direct a big-screen Hollywood remake of the biggest British comedy of all time. Paramount's film will likely have nothing to do with MTV's own small-screen adaptation of the show which begins airing August 20th and whose first look image was released last week. But we could be wrong as MTV are part of Paramount's parent company Viacom, so this could be a related project but it definitely doesn't sound like it. No plot details have been announced but we must presume Paramount's film will be a remake of the 2011 feature adaptation of the Channel 4 tv sitcom that took the clueless, sex-craved teenagers on holiday in the pursuit of sun, sea, sand and tits. That mega-popular film actually opens September 7th in US cinemas, one year after its historic UK run. Deadline suggest that the US film remake will be "inspired" by the original Brit sitcom/film, so we imagine it will be something like Superbad Goes Abroad. The Hollywood Reporter say the US remake is currently untitled which probably means that it'll have a new name entirely separate from the original UK show (so as not to get confused with MTV's tv show) and it will probably take the Amercianised lads to another foreign country and with different names/persona's. Paramount are clearly smart to go ahead with a US remake after the concept has worked so well over here but when you consider the majority of The Inbetweeners humour is a British cultural thing, Morris will need to be prepared to change the tone of his show radically. Though you can bet your bottom dollar if MTV's remake of the show and the cinematic release of the UK feature film do poorly in the coming weeks... Paramount will quietly end their interest in this remake.
