Paranormal Activity - The Ghost Dimension: 12 Ways It Ruins The Franchise

2. The Bad Guys Win...Again

It's not too surprising but it sure is disappointing that Toby and the witches win at the end of the movie. Most of the human characters are quickly killed off, the ritual to give Toby a human body is completed, and the demon-human Toby then approaches Leila's mother Emily, snaps her neck, approaches young Leila and the movie ends. Sure, the Saw movies famously built a series on having the bad guy basically win at the end of every film, but at least their final movie turned the tables and provided an intriguing, satisfying and totally insane pay-off. Here, though, it's just another boring victory for the bad guys, when it would've been more fun to see the protagonists discovering a way to fight these evil forces and come out triumphant for once. The characters may be stupid, but it's still not exactly easy to root for Toby in these movies.
