Parasite: 10 Reasons To Watch This Genre-Bending Dark Comedy Thriller

6. The Direction

Parasite Movie
Neon

The direction in this movie is slick, smart, and decisive, and nothing about the film feels wasted or wrongly put together. Bong Joon-Ho has other amazing offerings with similarly amazing direction, the most well-known among Western audiences being Snowpiercer, but this film shows him at his most masterful.

The performances, the camera angles, and the way everything moves - it's like a visual ballet, where nothing feels out of place and everyone is moving to proper time. Bong Joon-Ho as a director is like a conductor, ensuring the story beats and the many moving parts of the film, like an orchestral musical piece, crescendo the way it's meant to.

A lot of credit has to go to production design as well, and the way Bong Joon-Ho moves around the space, finding a good set in which he can find the right camera angles while still maintaining the look and atmosphere of the film. The tight corners and the way the camera moves around them really adds to how you never really know where the film is going - a mark of excellent direction from a master.
