Parasite: 10 Reasons To Watch This Genre-Bending Dark Comedy Thriller
7. The Comedy
Despite being altogether stressful to watch, there's something inherently hilarious about the whole situation the Kim family puts themselves in, and the balancing act they have trying to keep up their con of the rich Park family will have you in stitches.
The personalities of each character is somewhat over the top, but never too much for the tone of the film. The rich Parks have their own eccentricities that make them both hilarious to watch and vaguely unsettling, but never to the point the movie gets far fetched when it comes to their decisions and reactions.
There's something almost animated about the whole film, larger than life without ever being unrealistic. The way the main characters act, the way they plan and lie and even the way they speak, can have any audience in giggles throughout (the slow-mo water throwing scene in particular was comedic gold), and yet somehow that just makes the movie's harsher moments hit harder without cutting the tension or ruining a serious scene with inappropriate humour.
The film is utterly hilarious without ever ruining its darkness, which is one of the reasons it's so endlessly watchable.
