Paul W.S. Anderson’s Films Ranked From Worst To Best

6. Resident Evil: Afterlife

Screen Gems

Afterlife continues the series tradition of starting fresh with each passing entry, and the first fifteen minutes are the most insane of the franchise. An army of Milla Jovovich clones invade an Umbrella building – dressed in outfits ripped off from The Matrix - to kill franchise villain Albert Wesker, who in turn wipes them out by blowing up Tokyo. The real Alice appears and seemingly kills him, and then a new story begins from there; predictable it isn't.

The movie is basically an excuse for Anderson to try out a load of crazy gimmicks and cool stunts, ignoring logic or common sense at every turn. Alice loses her T-Virus powers early on, yet is somehow still able to jump eight feet in the air or leap off a tall building with no consequences. Afterlife has some overt nods to the games – Resident Evil 5 in particular – but once again it’s the director doing whatever the hell he wants.

It's forgettable fluff, but it’s never boring and is positively spring-loaded with WTF moments.

Handsome. Charismatic. Intelligent. Noble. Witty. I'm none of these things, but I'm a half decent writer, I guess.
