8. Who The F*** Is Peacemaker Anyway?

The official word on the big screen version of Peacemaker is that he's, "a man who believes in peace at any cost - no matter how many people he has to kill to get it." There's got to be more to him than that, though, right?

Created by the now defunct Charlton Comics, Joe Gill and Pat Boyette dreamed Peacemaker up as something of a tongue in cheek retort to the counter-cultural movement of the 1960s and the military establishment. The irony with this character is that he's a pacifist who is so committed to bringing peace that he's willing to kill countless people to make it happen!

Christopher Smith was a spy who would sneak into warring countries in order to take out the dictators in charge, and while it was a neat idea, it wasn't one that really resonated with comic book readers at the time.

Many of Charlton Comics' creations have faded into obscurity, and Peacemaker was only ever the star of his own series for five issues, but he was saved when DC Comics purchased a huge number of the company's characters in the early 1980s...
