Peacemaker: 10 Things You Need To Know About The Suicide Squad TV Series
7. Rebooted For The DC Universe
Now part of the DC Universe, Peacemaker was a natural fit for the gritty storytelling of the 1980s, but never found the same sort of success the likes of Captain Atom and Blue Beetle did. In this world, he didn't just want peace for peace's sake, but because he was mentally ill.
His father was a Nazi commander who worked in a concentration camp, so he was overcome with guilt and haunted by the memory of his dear dad's suicide (who took his own life rather than falling into the hands of the Allies). With that, Peacemaker becomes obsessed with making sure there's never another Hitler, hence why he targets the dictators of countries across the globe.
Things get particularly weird, however, when it's revealed that the ghosts of those he's killed - and his father - haunt him from within that odd looking helmet. That adds another interesting wrinkle to his story, and one a filmmaker with James Gunn's sensibilities could really take advantage of.
With The Suicide Squad rumoured to revolve around a South America dictator, it's easy enough to see why Amanda Waller views him as a good fit for Task Force X!
