After the original Peacemaker's death, a few other people tried taking over the mantle. Mitchell Black donned a similar costume and had the same outlook in a short-lived 1999 series, this time motivated by the guilt of having been a doctor whose mistake cost a young patient their life. However, he met his make in Infinite Crisis back in 2005.
In the mid-90s, another Peacemaker appeared in the pages of Justice League of America where he was revealed to be a member of the U.N.'s "League-Busters." He vanished soon after and has never been seen since, though.
Comic books being comic books, Christopher Smith would later return, this time portrayed in a more heroic light. That would eventually play into Grant Morrison's The Multiversity, a series which saw a version of the character from that Charlton Comics world joining a bunch of other C-List characters to stop a threat to the Multiverse.
On his world, he had gone so far as to assassinate the President of the United States, so can clearly be portrayed in any number of ways on screen!
