Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs

2. Javier Bardem Is A Fun Villain

It shouldn't surprise anyone that Javier Bardem does solid work as the villainous Captain Salazar, and while hardly a particularly complex or especially fascinating antagonist, Bardem's fierce performance combines with some genuinely creepy makeup and CGI effects to make him one of the series' more physically imposing baddies to date.

His brutal methods often push the film into unexpectedly dark territory, but it's mostly just clear he's having a whale of a time hamming it up for a giant paycheck, and who can blame him? He plays well opposite the cast of heroes and, like he's proven throughout his career, is a total natural at playing horrifying creeps.
