Polar Review: 3 Ups & 6 Downs

1. The "So Bad It's Good" Appeal

It honestly wouldn't be that surprising if Polar became a perversely entertaining "so bad it's good" cult fave in the years to come, because despite its universal critical scorn so far, there is likely to be an audience, somewhere, for its relentlessly dark humour and sheer filmmaking excess.

Younger teens borrowing their parents' Netflix accounts will have a ton of fun with it, and the counter's already running on when a think-piece will emerge about how Polar is a misunderstood masterpiece, so keep your eyes open for that one.

But indeed, it's probably true that Polar would be more engaging with a gang of friends and a case of beers in tow - and what movie wouldn't? - and the film's willingness to just throw everything at the screen should win it some fans, ironically or not.
