Predator Skulls: 10 Mistakes It Needs To Avoid

2. Ditch the Predator Killer Suit

The Predator
20th Century Fox

Shane Black's misguided idea of exploring the Predator civil war reached its nadir at the end of his entry. While cataloguing the tech retrieved from the alien's ship, one of the government agents accidentally actives a 'Predator Killer' suit, Iron Man-esque body armor that mimics Predator tech. The implication is that the good Predator left the suit for humanity to use in its battle against the evil ones.

This moment was heavy on the cringe-factor. Besides undercutting the menace of the Predators by having some of them be sympathetic to humans, it also robbed the monster of one of its most terrifying characteristics: its otherworld tech that vastly outstrips human weapons.

Giving humans superhero-like technology that puts them on an equal footing with Predators shows a fundamental misunderstanding about what the franchise is all about. At their heart, these are monster movies, and monster movies don't work if the creature becomes a manageable threat. Out of all the missteps the franchise has made over the years, this one stands out as particularly egregious and should be trashed immediately.
