Predicting 10 Biggest Box Office Movie Bombs Of 2016
10. The Huntsman: Winter's War
While it did manage to earn almost $400m at the global box office, Snow White and the Huntsman isn't exactly a movie that had people crying out for a sequel or in this case, a prequel. Besides some strong visuals and Charlize Theron's theatrical performance as the evil Queen Ravenna, there isn't a whole lot to recommend from the fantasy blockbuster. This being Hollywood, since the movie turned a profit a sequel was soon announced, with director Rupert Sanders and star Kristen Stewart not returning following a much-publicized affair between the two. Following some brief-yet-intriguing reports that Frank Darabont was in talks to direct, Winter's War sees first-timer Cedric Nicolas-Troyan (visual effects supervisor on the first movie) behind the camera. While a similar approach to the genre worked with Robert Stromberg and Maleficent, the strength of the Disney brand and an A-list star in Angelina Jolie were undoubtedly a huge factor in that movie's impressive box office haul of $758.5m. That being said, what Winter's War does have going for it is the cast. While Rush, Blackhat and In the Heart of the Sea have brought into question Chris Hemsworth's drawing power outside of his signature role as Thor, the movie's ensemble is bolstered by the incredibly talented female trio of Jessica Chastain, Emily Blunt and a returning Theron. However, a release date a week after Disney's The Jungle Book and two weeks before Captain America: Civil War could severely damage the movie's chances of box office success if reviews are anything less than stellar.
I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
