Predicting 10 Biggest Box Office Movie Bombs Of 2016

6. Gambit

With Hugh Jackman stepping away from his now-iconic portrayal of Wolverine after the character's third and final standalone movie in 2017 and the main players of the First Class series' contracts (including Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy) coming to an end following this summer's X-Men: Apocalypse, the long-running comic book franchise is in need of a new cinematic figurehead, with 20th Century Fox hoping that Channing Tatum's Gambit can fill that void. However, the project hasn't exactly enjoyed the smoothest development process. Rupert Wyatt was hired to direct last June before dropping out just three months later. While Wyatt cited the old classic 'scheduling conflicts' as the reason for his departure, sources claimed that the studio and director couldn't reach a compromise over the direction of the story. Then came the rumors that Tatum himself, the driving force behind the project as both star and producer, was having difficulty in closing his own deal. Finally, in November the talented and versatile Doug Liman signed on direct, with Gambit nonetheless facing a race against time to make its scheduled October 7 release date. At this point it seems unlikely that the movie will even be released this year given that it hasn't even started shooting yet, and pulling together a $150m comic book blockbuster from scratch in just ten months is a virtually impossible task. While Liman has a track record of turning troubled productions into good movies and Channing Tatum is an underrated dramatic actor, Gambit is by no means a sure thing at this point. In a year packed full of highly-anticipated comic book movies, Gambit could find itself left by the wayside. It doesn't help that the project lands in an end-of-year timetable packed with potential blockbusters; Gambit's currently-scheduled release date comes just a fortnight after the Chris Pratt and Denzel Washington-starring remake of The Magnificent Seven, and just weeks before virtually-guaranteed smash hits Doctor Strange and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, giving the superhero flick plenty of unwanted competition among the coveted 18-34 demographic.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
