Some may debate which of the two Disney geek-fests will be the highest grossing movie of the year, but really there's no competition. Avengers: Age Of Ultron will do phenomenal numbers, sure, but come the end of 2015 it'll look like a puny god alongside Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Nobody in their right minds expects Episode VII to bomb, but looking at the pieces fit into place it's becoming increasingly likely the film won't just be a hit, but will also join Avatar and Titanic in that oh-so exclusive $2 billion gross club. For anyone doubtful that Star Wars can reach these high numbers, just take a look at the successes of what is widely regarded as the franchise's weakest entry. The Phantom Menace made just shy of a billion dollars back in 1999, which when adjusted for inflation comes to $1.4 billion (and that's not taking into account that ticket prices have gone up at an even higher rate). That's a film that many fans found boring and childish. Just think what a good movie could have done. Of course, whether The Force Awakens will be a good movie won't be known until 18th December (although it'll be a shock if it isn't). But with the hype machine already getting to unbearable levels, it's unfathomable to think the return to that galaxy far, far away won't be 2015's biggest movie.
