The least likely and most risky of the bunch, one distinct possibility could be that Marvel simply doesn’t set up Thanos or Infinity War in any overt way, opting to take a minimalist approach as opposed to giving us something concrete to chew on.

Feige recently stated that Thanos would be the ‘main character’ of Infinity War, in which case it would make perfect sense that Marvel would want to keep their cards close to their chest. Giving Thanos a lot of screen time in Infinity War would give the character room to breathe, making him a villain worthy of all these years of build-up; while developing his character too much outside of the movie could undermine Thanos’ arc throughout the story.
