Predicting 15 Comic Book Movies Announced In 2018

12. Captain Marvel 2

The first Captain Marvel movie hasn't even hit cinemas yet, but with Kevin Feige already confirming that Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) will be the most powerful character in the entire MCU to date, they're clearly banking hard on her being a breakout superhero.

She'll no doubt be instrumental in Thanos' inevitable defeat in Avengers 4, yet with her being kept entirely out of the finger snap shenanigans, announcing a Captain Marvel sequel this year is a safe choice that doesn't upend any of the existing suspense.

While formally announcing a sequel before the first movie has even hit screens is at its best weird and at its worst grossly arrogant, Marvel Studios' unprecedented level of success makes it hard to blame them.

She's clearly not going to be a "one and done" superhero, and if they've got enough confidence in what they've seen of Brie Larson's work so far, why not earn some brownie points by confirming a sequel right away?

Given the criticism the MCU has received for its lack of female-led superhero movies, confirming Captain Marvel 2 would be nothing if not a canny PR move.
