Predicting 20 Comic Book Movies Announced In 2017

17. Black Widow

Wolverine Movie
Marvel

The tale of the Black Widow solo movie has been going on for far longer than the recent revival in interest. It's now decades since the film was initially planned for release (and scuppered by Aeon Flux being terrible), and Scarlet Johansson's performance as the character more than justifies a belated solo movie.

It's a shame that we couldn't get that movie off the back of Civil War, given how interesting it would have been to see her driven underground, but that isn't the only interesting launching point.

We've already seen hints at her murky past, starting in the mysterious Red Room, and it would be great to see her unpicking that a little more - perhaps with Bucky or Hawkeye in tow.

Evidence?

Discussion of this project seems to happen every time Marvel have a big project to push and they want to remind everyone that they aren't actually sexists.

Kevin Feige has also confirmed a Widow movie is in his immediate plans - at the press day for Civil War:

"Yes, for sure, I think Widow at some point would be great. But when you start talking about things that are now four/five years away... Sometimes we do that. Doctor Strange has been talked about for ten years. But we're focused on the next nine movies, which is a lot, between now and 2019."
