Venom upended most sensible expectations in the early October release window last year, and Joker will be hitting screens without any direct competition to speak of. Though the hardcore crowd might not be feeling yet another Joker recast, the appeal of Joaquin Phoenix speaks for itself.

Unless the trailers are garbage, a Joker-focused movie shouldn't have too much trouble crawling past half-a-billion worldwide, especially with the curiosity factor of Phoenix's performance to more "discerning" audiences.

Don't be surprised if this thing ends up performing much stronger, but factoring in the volatile unpredictability of DC at the box office, this feels like the safe ballpark.
