Worldwide Gross: $600 million

It's crazy to think that Doctor Strange comes out in less than two weeks - rumours that the character was getting his own MCU feature began all the way back in 2009, and as the years went by, it started to feel like he just wasn't destined for the big time.

Yet here we are!

In terms of financial success, things are looking rather toasty for the Sorcerer Supreme, with recent tracking reports pointing toward an opening U.S. debut somewhere in the region of $55 - $75 million.

That lower-end $55 million estimate is likely to rise as we get closer to release, too - the film will be bolstered by its already stellar word of mouth, which should boost those Saturday and Sunday figures once all the super-fans go see it on Friday and pass glowing reviews onto their friends. A $75 million opening weekend would put it in the same region as Thor: The Dark World ($85m), another winter release that went on to gross roughly $644 million by the end of its run.

But Doctor Strange has a rather large barrier in its way in the shape of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, which could halt its long-term legs when it launches in mid-November. Couple that with the fact that Strange is a brand-new character with pretty much zero mainstream recognition, and a final worldwide tally of $600 million is actually fairly respectable.
