Predicting How 2017’s Biggest Movies Will End

9. It's Not The Final Chapter - Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

Cinema has a rather complicated history with finality, especially when it comes to literally labeling movies something like "The Final Chapter". Who can forget how 1984's Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter ended up being only the fourth entry into a currently twelve-part franchise?

The upcoming sixth Resident Evil movie touts itself as the grand finale to the last 15 years of improbably successful outings, and while it will probably end with Milla Jovovich's Alice saving the day, don't expect everything to be totally hunky dory by the time the credits roll.

Even in the games, Wesker has a habit of coming back from the dead, so a final scene (possibly in the credits) that implies his survival or sets up a new villain (given that Wesker is basically an anti-hero now) seems rather likely.

Whether it's setting up a soft reboot that allows a younger actress to take over from Jovovich or a direct sequel, it's doubtful a franchise this oddly lucrative is on the way out, especially with the release of the seventh core game just a few days before the movie hits screens.
