Predicting The 10 Biggest Box Office Bombs Of 2018

2. Alita: Battle Angel

Budget: $200 million

Predicted Box Office: $270 million (projected $130 million loss)

There's perhaps no surer bet of a box office bomb this year than Alita: Battle Angel. Though James Cameron is producing, Robert Rodriguez (Spy Kids, Machete) has never helmed a film of this magnitude before, and even in surer hands, spending $200 million on an adaptation of a fairly niche manga seems wildly misguided.

That's without even mentioning the PR debacle that is the creative decision to give Alita digitally-enlarged eyes to better match the source material, which has been met with derision by fans, and is sure to turn casual audiences off even more.

On top of all this, it's got an absolutely hellish box office slot, releasing two weeks after Ant-Man and the Wasp, a week after The Rock's new tentpole Skyscraper, a week before Mission: Impossible - Fallout and two weeks before The Predator.

This thing doesn't stand a chance, even if it ends up being a good movie.
