3. The Meg

Budget: $150 million

Predicted Box Office: $180 million (projected $120 loss)

It's borderline insane to greenlight a Jason Statham-starring shark movie at the $150 million price point, especially without an auteur filmmaker at the helm (but rather National Treasure's Jon Turteltaub).

Shark movies do tend to perform well at the box office, but even with The Stath leading a diverse, international cast, it's hard to imagine The Meg being anything more than a badly-reviewed B-movie that probably shouldn't have cost more than about $70 million.

The film needs at least $300 million to be a financial success, which considering it releases shortly after Mission: Impossible - Fallout and The Predator, is practically unfathomable (pardon the pun).
