Predicting The 20 Best Movies Of 2013

6. Elysium

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mmA_sZUjsE Neil Bloomkamp's follow up to modern sci-fi classic District 9, Elysium once again brings together science fiction and social commentary as it tells of a dystopic future where the rich live in an orbiting space station while the poor remain behind on Earth. Elysium is the next in a stream of science fiction films that have been released in the last few year (Avatar, Prometheus, Star Trek, District 9...) and should easily rank among the best films released in 2013. With a cast including Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, and Sharlto Copley, Elysium promises to be among the years most critically acclaimed and hopefully will be commercially successful enough to keep the current sci-fi resurgence alive as few genres are more consistently entertaining. The success of the film would also catapult Neil Bloomkamp into the upper region of Hollywood directors where his gritty directorial style and intriguing ideas would be more than welcome by moviegoers.

I love movies, literature, history, music and the NBA. I love all things nerdy including but not limited to Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Firefly. My artistic idols are Dylan, Dostoevsky, and Malick and my goal in life is to become like Bernard Black from Black Books. When I die, I hope to turn into the space baby from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
