The Ending: The Last Jedi concludes on a cliffhanger as Luke is overpowered by someone, probably Supreme Leader Snoke, and turned to the dark side.

This would not only emphasise the meaning of the movie's title, but would tie in with all those claims that the movie has a "shocking" reveal.

The struggle between light and dark is one of the series' most elemental themes, one that Luke himself has dealt with in the past, and considering how much these new films seem to enjoy callbacks to the original trilogy, it makes a lot of sense.

Sure, he'll be brought back to the light side at some point in Episode IX, but it'd be a shocking cliffhanger that'd keep people talking for two agonising years until it was resolved.

Can you just imagine the brilliant s***storm wrought by fans if the final shot is a close-up of Luke's eyes glowing red as we wipe to the credits?
