Pixar has been increasingly willing to play the sequel game in recent years, and while not many people outside of the merchandising department were clamoring for Cars 3, next year sees what could be the studio's most anticipated sequel yet with the release of The Incredibles 2.
Lauded by many as the studio's finest ever effort, The Incredibles will be 14 years old by the time the follow-up hits theaters, with many fans of the movie now able to show it to their own children, resulting in a whole new generation of fans eager to see the continuing adventures of the Parr family.
Pixar are known for alternating between original projects and sequels in recent years, and it is a strategy that has worked out very well for them so far. The studio's sequels have always improved on the box office performance of their predecessors.
It is no coincidence that Toy Story 3 and Finding Dory, both sequels to beloved movies released over a decade later, are their only two films to earn over a billion dollars at the box office. Pixar are arguably the most consistent studio in Hollywood, and there is no reason to doubt that The Incredibles 2 will join the exclusive club.
