What We Know: After rebooting Superman, Zack Snyder ups the ante considerably by bringing Batman into the fold, pitting DC's two crown jewels against each other on the big screen for the first time.

The first footage paints the movie as a serious affair, with Superman facing the backlash after reducing much of Metropolis to rubble during Man of Steel. With one of the best visual directors in the business at the helm, Dawn of Justice will no doubt look stunning, but story and character have never been Snyder's strong points, and the cast is loaded with both returning and new characters.

Along with the two title superheroes, the movie also needs to find room for Lois Lane, Perry White, Alfred Pennyworth, Lex Luthor, Martha Kent, Cyborg, Wonder Woman and Aquaman, along with several other unconfirmed characters. As Avengers: Age of Ultron recently demonstrated, having such a massive cast can stretch an ensemble superhero movie to breaking point.

The Prediction: With a never-before-seen concept on the big screen and a talented cast, Batman v Superman is all but guaranteed to become one of the biggest movies in history.

While the action sequences will be no doubt be jaw-droppingly spectacular, the script for Dawn of Justice is key; it needs to walk the delicate line between spectacle and story to prevent the movie from becoming a hollow action-fest.
