Predicting The Next 10 Comic Book Movies From Worst To Best
4. Suicide Squad (August 5, 2016)
968861What We Know: Instead of focusing on clean-cut heroes, David Ayer's Suicide Squad puts the bad guys front and center, with the project tantalizingly described as 'The Dirty Dozen with supervillains'. The writer/director has built a reputation as someone that garners huge respect from his actors, which would go some way to explaining Suicide Squad's impressive ensemble.
As well as generating some incredibly divisive responses from fans, the cast photo reveals no less than nine members of the titular squad, and you would assume that Will Smith didn't sign on to be a bit-part player. Similarly, the image doesn't even feature Amanda Waller, not to mention rumored cameos by Lex Luthor and Bruce Wayne. And of course, you don't cast Academy Award winner Jared Leto as the Joker without making him an important part of the movie.
The Prediction: Ayer has reportedly been given creative control over the project, and with movies like End of Watch, Sabotage and Fury on his filmography it would be safe to assume that Suicide Squad will be grittier than the average superhero movie, given his penchant for handling ensemble casts and hard-hitting action scenes.
Making the villains the centerpiece of the story already gives the project a unique twist, with the misadventures of Task Force X capable of putting a fresh spin on a genre that's reaching saturation point.
Predicted Rating: 7.5/10
