At this point, we've all been badly burned by the Terminator franchise on more than one occasion, so it's hard to have faith when, yet again, everyone involved tells us that "this is the one!" But despite the last three films destroying audience and critic trust in the iconic franchise, it's hard not to feel even just a little hyped for Dark Fate.

For one thing, this is the first film in the series since Terminator 2 to have creator James Cameron involved in a creative capacity (he endorsed Genisys, but didn't have a hand in making it). And if there's one thing you should never do, it's bet against James Cameron: the man knows how to produce hits, and since his first two Terminator movies are fantastic, maybe he can inject a little bit of that magic into Dark Fate.

This movie is also bringing back fan-favourites like Linda Hamilton and Edward Furlong for the first time since Terminator 2, a strong nostalgia play that might cause critics to be a bit more favourable towards this entry.

A new Terminator movie is never going to recapture the brilliance of the first two, but Dark Fate's creative team is strong (alongside Cameron as a producer, Deadpool's Tim Miller will direct), its trailers have been solid, and at this point, the franchise must have learned from the mistakes of the past. We're crossing our fingers here, but we think that this will be one of the better-received entries in the series.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
