2017's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was one of the most surprising success stories of the entire year, coming close to hitting a billion dollars in ticket sales, and earning an impressive 76% RT score to boot. Audiences and most critics seemed to really like it, and since the sequel was smartly fast-tracked, that positivity will be fresh in everyone's mind.

The Next Level is also adding two beloved actors in the form of Danny DeVito and Danny Glover, who should be able to bring a bit of additional flavour to the first film's clever formula. On the downside, that formula looks like it might start to feel quite repetitive here, and the film will probably lose a few critic points because of that.

But even still, the whole gimmick of seeing The Rock, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan act like wildly different versions of themselves is always going to be fun to watch, so as long as its runtime is tight and the jokes and action come thick and fast, the movie should be entertaining enough to hit roughly the same RT score as its predecessor.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
