Predicting The Rotten Tomatoes Scores Of 2019's Remaining Blockbusters
2. Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker (94%)
J.J. Abrams and the Tomatometer have a very good relationship. Of the five films that he's directed, his "worst" RT score is Mission: Impossible III at 70%, meaning that The Rise of Skywalker is pretty much guaranteed to receive a fresh rating - the only question is how high it will climb.
It's no secret that The Last Jedi divided the fans, but the critics actually loved it, and they've been favourable to each Star Wars film in the Disney era: The Force Awakens sits at 93%, Rogue One at 84%, The Last Jedi at 91%, and Solo at 70%. This love of Star Wars combined with the goodwill towards Abrams as a director can only bode well for The Rise of Skywalker's own score.
The film is also being marketed as the Avengers: Endgame of the Star Wars franchise. All the old favourites are returning, including Lando, Luke, Leia, C-3PO, and Chewbacca, along with Palpatine's involvement, an epic lightsaber battle, and the promise of bringing the entire Skywalker saga to a satisfying conclusion.
Nostalgia is a powerful tool for any film to wield, and with Abrams' penchant for crafting crowdpleasing blockbusters, The Rise of Skywalker has the potential to be the highest-rated Star Wars film of the modern era.
