Predicting The Rotten Tomatoes Scores Of 2019's Remaining Blockbusters

1. Cats (62%)

Based purely on the amount of mockery that Cats' debut trailer received, it would appear that it's already destined to become a huge critical and commercial flop.

But, importantly, all of that mockery was targeted exclusively at the film's visuals. We don't know how good the story, the acting, the music or the cinematography will be, and looking at director Tom Hooper's previous work (The King's Speech, Les Misérables, The Danish Girl), all of those elements will probably be top-notch. Additionally, that trailer also released in July, giving the production team a good few months to alter and improve the look of the cats themselves.

That being said, they haven't had the time to overhaul the creature design fully, meaning that some of the iffiness from that first trailer will remain in the final product, and a lot of people simply won't be able to look past that. While a few entertaining musical numbers should save it from plunging into rotten territory, Cats will end up being Hooper's lowest RT score to date - though not by much.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
