Project Power Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

6. It's A Unique, Creative Spin On The Superhero Genre

Outside of that more conventional third act, Project Power deserves plenty of praise for its attempt to do something different with the superhero movie.

The premise, basically a tentpole riff on the 2011 Bradley Cooper vehicle Limitless, leaves writer Mattson Tomlin with a wealth of possibilities, which he largely explores with creativity and originality.

The unpredictability of not knowing which superpower is going to manifest next in a Power user is genuinely exciting, and observing how the drug changes the dynamics of society, upending existing structures, is genuinely compelling.

As much as Netflix is clearly trying to take a lead from hit superhero franchises - namely the Marvel Cinematic Universe - Project Power doesn't feel like it's just lazily sticking to a winning formula, but is instead confident enough to take its own path.
