We'll just go ahead and reiterate the question that everybody is asking right now. What the hell is the Deacon it if it isn't supposed to be some kind of progenitor to the Xenomorphs? Well, the answer, probably, is that nobody knows - not even Ridley Scott. Many have speculated that Scott originally intended to have the Deacon actually be a kind of precursor to the Xenomorphs, with last-minute script changes making the revelation impossible within the framework of the narrative. This led many to believe that the Deacon largely remained in the film to provide fan service to lovers of the original Alien film. Whatever the real answer is, it doesn't change the fact that the Deacon now exists within the the film's canon, and with that in mind, it means a sequel needs to find a purpose for the almost doppelgänger-esque alien. Will it follow Elizabeth and David on their voyage to the Engineer home-world and cause havoc, or will it stay behind and reproduce with the inhabitants of LV-223?
