Prometheus & 5 Best Films Of 2012 So Far

1. Prometheus

Oooh controversial I know; this visually epic sci-fi summer blockbuster from the master of the genre himself, Sir Ridley Scott has split opinions right down the middle, causing geekgasm€™s and outrage in equal amounts. The €˜kind of€™ Alien prequel written by LOST€™s Damon Lindelof based on Jon Spaihts (The Darkest Hour, I know!) ground work taps into a glorious new alien world, tackling philosophical ideas and asking challenging questions which most Hollywood films just won€™t touch. The script has taken many a beating in the last month or so, but hey it is unique and thought provoking, you have to give it that. The polarising story tells of a scientific expedition with Weyland€™s trillions to the far reaches of the galaxy looking for €˜the engineer€™s€™, an alien race who may be our beginning or just possibly our end. Led by Swedish Ripley (Noomi Rapace) and a crew that includes robot David (a stellar performance from the always amazing Michael Fassbender); a badass Idris Elba as Prometheus€™s captain and the angelic, ice queen Charlize Theron (back on top form with this and Young Adult) to name but a few. What follows is one hell of a tense, entertaining rollercoaster ride into the galactic abyss. Ridley Scott throws everything at this; there are exceptional set pieces which left me with goosebumps, some beautiful cinematography and enough geeky factors to out-do The Avengers (the Engineer€™s technology alone is breath-taking). Yes it has its flaws but no more than most studio blockbusters, I believe Prometheus will be a future cult classic and has been entirely misunderstood; if you just get carried away with the ride it€™s one highly enjoyable genre piece, nothing more nothing less. Still I suspect 2012 has a lot better to offer and eagerly await The Dark Knight Rises, film of the year? Surely. So what film's have been your faves of 2012 so far?
