Prometheus: 8 Key Themes In Understanding The Film

Treatment of Themes

What I loved about Prometheus is that, despite its flaws and failings (and there are many), it is ripe and rich in symbolism, motif, and allusion. The last time I recall attempting to unravel the mysteries of a film in this way was with the Wachowskis' 1999's philosophy probing blockbuster The Matrix. Understanding the extent of the mythological and thematic backdrop of the movie is by no means essential to enjoying the film, but hopefully this set of articles can add to the immersive and enriching experience of such a complex film if you missed any of these points and allusions on your first viewing. I understand criticisms that Prometheus suffers at times in that, not only does it strive to ask more questions than it can possibly answer, it asks a series of questions that just cannot be answered. But for me this is also one of its keys strengths... in that it turns it into a thought-provoking and discussion-invoking movie that we may well be discussing for years to come. I'd like to thank you all for the tremendous reception that this series of articles has had and I would love to hear your comments below. I will always respond to your comments and of course your further questions! You can read PART 1 of this series HERE.You can read PART 2 of this series HERE.Follow me on Twitter: @BenjiTaylorWins
