Quentin Tarantino: Definitive Guide To Homages, Influences And References

Pulp Fiction

18. Jack Rabbit Slims

The waiters, waitresses, performers and hosts in Jack Rabbit Slim's are all dressed like 50s icons. This include James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, Mamie Van Doren, Dean Martin, Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, and Ed Sullivan, who presides over the infamous "twist dance contest."

17. Red Apple Cigarettes

Butch purchases a packet of Red Apples from Marcellus Wallace's bar. This is Tarantino's fictional cigarette brand and it has featured in nearly all of his movies. We'll become very familiar with Red Apple cigarettes as we go through the rest of Quentin's filmography.

16. Buddy Holly

Steve Buscemi, who played the infamously unsympathetic to customer services Mr. Pink in Reservoir Dogs, makes a brief ironic appearance in Jack Rabbit Slim's as Vincent and Mia's waiter. He's dressed as Buddy Holly, and doesn't seem to be enjoying his work very much. "I don't think Buddy Holly's much of a waiter," Vincent deadpans.
