Ranking: 10 Highest-Grossing Horror Movie Franchises

6. Final Destination ($665.1 Million)

The Final Destination franchise takes itself decidedly less seriously than most of the other series on this list, and though the quality of the five movies is all over the place, even the lesser entries at least boast some fun, amusingly over-elaborate death sequences to savour.

Best Movie: This is a tough one, but Final Destination 5 is a rare fifth entry into a horror series that actually outdoes everything that came before. Aided by Steven Quale's stylish, suspenseful direction and a clever new twist on the typical formula, it proved that not all late-franchise sequels are lazy, uninspired retreads.

Worst Movie: Once again, it's number four, with The Final Destination, which simply isn't as fun as the other movies, lacking many creative death scenes and heading towards its conclusion with a more cynical inevitability than ever.
