Ranking 10 Highest-Grossing Movie Franchises - From Worst To Best

6. Batman

Rank: 8th Total Worldwide Box Office: $3,805,543,530 No. Of Films: 10 High and lows for the Batman franchise all round, to say the least. Whilst both Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan did great work with their respective films (Batman Begins and The Dark Knight pretty much ensured Batman as the most popular superhero on the planet), there have been plenty of duds along the way, too. The original feature film starring Adam West is camp beyond measure, and whilst it's just silly fun, it hasn't dated particularly well when placed alongside "darker" efforts. The Dark Knight Rises, on the other hand, stands as one of the most divisive superhero films ever and - as a result - has come to define the franchise; lots of good and lots of bad. The Batman franchise is most interesting for one notable reason, though: Whilst The Dark Knight is arguably the greatest superhero movie ever made, Batman & Robin - Joel Schumacher's insanely ill-judged sequel to Batman Forever - is the worst. In fact, it's arguably the worst movie ever made full-stop (just ask the readers of Empire magazine, who voted it as such back in 2012). A major tarnish on the series, that's for sure.
