Ranking 10 Highest-Grossing Movie Franchises - From Worst To Best

5. Harry Potter

Rank: 2nd Total Worldwide Box Office: $7,723,431,572 No. Of Films: 8 There aren't really any "bad" movies in the Harry Potter franchise, per se, but - aside from Alfonso Cuaron's visionary third film, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (the best of all eight) - there aren't really any stand-out movies, either. Whilst the first two flicks in J.K. Rowling's boy wizard saga were entertaining but almost nauseating in their "friendliness," the later films - that being the final four movies helmed by British director David Yates - feel factory-like to a fault. Though they're perfectly watchable, Yates' movies have a real "by the numbers" feel about them, almost as if they were rendered by somebody without any real love or affection for the source material. So, yes, whilst the Harry Potter movie franchise ultimately consists of eight good and rather entertaining movies, when it comes down to the nitty gritty (as it always does), there's a noticeable lack of risk and passion and vision in the majority of the films. It's basically as if the second half of the franchise was directed by a Warner Bros. profit algorithm.
