Box Office: $789.9 million (#5)

Considering that many analysts expected the fifth Pirates movie to be only a modest success due to audience fatigue with both the series and Johnny Depp, it's impressive that Dead Men Tell No Tales still pulled in almost $800 million worldwide. Another one is basically inevitable, then.

"Better than expected" is the best way to describe this film, arriving amid immensely low expectations but benefiting from solid visuals and fun action from talented directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg.

Also, Kaya Scodelario's spunky new female lead and Javier Bardem's over-the-top villain were great additions, giving the film a bunch more personality, while Depp basically walked through his usual boozy pirate shtick well enough.

It had a reasonable run-time and kept the energy up, even if some third act missteps stopped it from being genuinely good.
