Ranking: 10 Highest Grossing Movies Of Summer 2017
7. Despicable Me 3
Box Office: $950.3 million (#2)
Coming in at almost exactly the same box office cume as the previous Despicable Me (if somewhat less than the $1.159 billion haul for Minions), it's safe to say that the brand remains extremely strong at number three, and number four will surely be announced soon enough.
It's fair to say that Despicable Me 3 isn't particularly clever or nuanced, but it is a visually vibrant, charming and easy time at the movies, sticking close to franchise formula but moving fast and refusing to outstay its welcome.
Trey Parker's 80s-obsessed baddie is the easy highlight, and Steve Carell once again does fine work as not only Gru but also his demented twin brother Dru. It won't stick in your mind for long, but it's sweet, nice to look at and inoffensive, which sometimes is all you want and need.
