14. Alien: Covenant

Box Office: $236.6 million (#20)

Though Ridley Scott promised that the new Alien movie would rectify the numerous issues fans vocally had with Prometheus, Alien: Covenant is a frustratingly sloppy entry into the franchise, packed with asinine characters and a dubious engagement with the xenomorph's mythology.

Michael Fassbender undeniably steals the show in his magnificent dual role and there's some terrifically gnarly gore, but overall this just feels like a so-so grab bag of the series' tropes while moving the franchise on in only the most predictable fashion possible.

It certainly wasn't bad, but given the potential to finally give fans exactly what they wanted, it's a shame that Scott once again left fans frustrated and confused.
