Ranking: 20 Highest Grossing Horror Movies Of All Time

13. I Am Legend

I Am Legend will smith
Warner Bros.

Box Office: $585.3 million (#2)

A testament to Will Smith's charismatic ability to carry a movie almost entirely on his shoulders, I Am Legend doesn't quite come together in the final stretch (at least in the theatrical version), but Smith's magnetic performance is more than worth the price of admission alone.

A post-apocalyptic horror that fully cements the terror of isolation, even if its CGI-enhanced "antagonists" aren't terribly compelling, Smith's emotionally devastating performance finds the humanity in a genre that so often casts it aside in favour of cheap shocks.

Though it does diverge somewhat from the source material and certainly could've taken its premise in an even bleaker direction, for a $150 million blockbuster starring one of the world's biggest A-listers, it makes some unexpectedly bold choices.
