Ranking 2015's Summer Blockbuster Films From Worst To Best

9. Ant-Man

Ant-Man may forever leave audiences wondering how much better it would've been had Edgar Wright directed his vision, but the Peyton Reed-directed effort is nevertheless a fun and outrageous if oddly generic superhero movie. Firstly, the performances are totally on-point: Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Evangeline Lily and especially Michael Peña are expertly-cast, the pint-sized action sequences are terrifically imaginative and, smartly, the film doesn't take itself at all seriously. However, the script is full of formulaic trappings: the villain is only slightly more interesting than the MCU's worst baddies like Ronan and Malekith, Scott Lang's (Rudd) family drama is boring and pretty pointless, and the actual plot itself is just straightforward heist fare if you forget about the whole shrinking thing. Yes, it didn't quite live up to that initial promise, but given the disaster many were anticipating, it ended up an enjoyable jaunt, though not necessarily one of the MCU's best offerings to date, as evidenced by it currently sitting as the second-worst-grossing film in the franchise (ahead of 2008's The Incredible Hulk and just about to surpass 2011's Captain America).
