19. Fantastic Four

Assuming you don't consider Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 to be a blockbuster in any way, shape or form, Fantastic Four was the worst-reviewed blockbuster of the summer, and with good reason. If it didn't rankle some of us quite as much as Hitman, it's still an unbelievably inept attempt to re-imagine the notoriously goofy superhero team in a gritty, grimdark fashion a la Batman Begins. Even ignoring the widespread production issues with director Josh Trank, the movie just doesn't really work as a superhero movie or as a simple piece of narrative filmmaking: the heroes don't get their powers for half the movie, the thing is a tonal mess (the movie, not the character), the CGI is embarrassingly bad for a $120 million movie, the editing is disjointed, and the final climax with Doom (who is essentially a laughing stock here, by the way) is borderline incoherent. Despite sizeable box office projections, this is a rare instance of vocal negative word-of-mouth killing a movie for even more casual viewers. The film thankfully bombed, though Fox are misguidedly still pursuing a sequel, tentatively scheduled for a June 2017 release. On the plus side, it can't really be any worse, right?
