Ranking 2015's Summer Blockbuster Films From Worst To Best

18. Pixels

Adam Sandler continues to waste his talents (yes, he does have them) on low-effort, idiotic, over-budgeted comedies, and Pixels is easily his most disappointing effort in a long while. Director Chris Columbus does enough bad work here to almost make viewers forget he directed classic entries into the Home Alone and Harry Potter franchises, and even with a superb supporting cast (including Peter Dinklage, Michelle Monaghan, Josh Gad and Sean Bean), Pixels is a shockingly dull blockbuster. So, where does such a great premise go wrong? It takes too long to establish the premise, there's no internal logic, Dinklage doesn't show up for half the movie, there are at least two romantic subplots too many, there's not enough action, and the film's treatment of Q*Bert is enough to earn it vitriol from every gamer living and breathing. When a movie about video games is made by people who appear to have never played them, it's not too surprising that the results are bland, tone-deaf and frequently awful.
