Ranking Aaron Sorkin Films From Worst To Best
2. Trial Of The Chicago 7
Aaron Sorkin's most recent film and the second he has directed himself, Trial of the Chicago 7 is exceptional and is one of his greatest achievements. A huge Oscar contender that could bring Sorkin his second Academy Award for his screenplay, Trial is about the court proceedings surrounding the Chicago Seven (Eight if you count Bobby Seale) after they were accused of inciting a riot while protesting the Vietnam war.
The main success of this film is how Sorkin finds the time to develop around nine main characters and a few supporting characters as well. It is incredibly difficult to add this many layers to such a large ensemble and have them all be as well established as they are with clear motives and drives for all of them.
Trial manages to be be hilarious and emotionally arresting at all the right moments with an extraordinary cast who are all at the top of their game. Sorkin is a competent director here but it is his razor sharp script that is the standout with some truly masterful dialogue that makes the interactions between the characters all the more special.
