16. The Legend Of Tarzan
Why is it that Hollywood struggles so badly to recapture the magic of iconic storylines when there's more budget available and lots of supposedly top level talent involved?
The Legend Of Tarzan is yet another attempt to inject life into a classic franchise that simply fudges the resuscitation attempt. The fact that it's been in production in various states since 2003 says everything you need to know about it: and in that entire time nobody managed to come up with a plot that flickered above the bland point on the excitement spectrum.
In the face of a wayward, turgid story, enthusiastic performances evaporate like gorillas in the mist and it really doesn't help that it looks like they spent way too little of the comparatively gigantic budget (of $180m) on making the CGI look better than ridiculous.
