Ranking All 22 Major Summer 2016 Blockbusters From Worst To Best
14. Suicide Squad
1255786Suicide Squad should have been excellent: it had a genius conceit that should have been the perfect medicine for a stoic, turgid DC Cinematic Universe to date, dialling up the fun and playing with an outrageous anarchist spirit to breathe new life into DC's best characters.
Unfortunately, Suicide Squad might actually be the worst edited film in the genre. It smacks of studio interference, wandering indiscriminately between genres and tones, cutting key elements out and giving precedence to entirely the wrong things.
The errors are manifold: the villains aren't up to their billing, the aesthetic is muddy and dull when it should have been pulpy and cartoonish, the Joker is reinvented as a love lorn emo and no character has any development at all. At times, it's laughably poor, and no amount at the box office will change the fact that it's one of the biggest missed opportunities in comic book movie history.
